Best Skirts for an Hourglass Body Shape

Skirts that start at the waist and skim the hips show off a balanced shape.

This guide is for the hourglass body shape: bust and hips within 5% of each other, with a waist at 75% or less of the wider of the two.

Look for

  • Pencil skirts with some stretch and a high waistband
  • A-line and circle skirts that flare from the waist
  • Wrap skirts that adjust to the difference between waist and hips
  • Hems at or just below the knee, or midi lengths that end at the widest part of the calf

Skip or adjust

  • Gathered or tiered skirts with lots of fabric at the waist, which add bulk
  • Very low waistbands that cut across the hips
  • Stiff fabrics that stand out from the body instead of following it
