How to measure
- Pull your hair back and look straight ahead in a mirror, or use a straight-on photo held at real size. Use a ruler or a flexible tape and measure in straight lines, not around the curve.
- Forehead width: across the forehead at its widest, from temple to temple, roughly halfway between the eyebrows and the hairline.
- Cheekbone width: across the widest part of the cheekbones, just below the outer corners of the eyes.
- Jaw width: from the corner of the jaw just below one ear, straight across to the same point on the other side.
- Face length: from the middle of the hairline down to the tip of the chin. If your hairline has receded, estimate where it would be.
- Measure each twice and use the same unit for all four.
How the calculator decides
Your shape comes from a few ratios. The rules are checked in this order, and the first one that matches wins.

| Oval | None of the above: a length between 1.25 and 1.45 times the cheekbone width, and a softer jaw |

The six shapes
- OvalAn oval face is longer than it is wide, with the cheekbones as the widest point and a softly curved jaw.
- RoundA round face is about as long as it is wide, with full cheeks and a softly curved jaw and chin.
- SquareA square face has a wide, angular jaw that is close to the width of the forehead and cheekbones.
- HeartA heart-shaped face has a wide forehead and cheekbones that taper to a narrower jaw and chin.
- DiamondA diamond face has high, wide cheekbones with a narrower forehead and jaw.
- OblongAn oblong face is noticeably longer than it is wide, with a forehead, cheekbones and jaw of similar width.

How accurate is a face shape calculator?
It sorts four measurements into the six most common face shapes using simple ratios. Real faces are more varied than six categories, and the angle of a photo or your hairline can change what you measure, so treat the result as a guide rather than a label.
Does this upload my photo or measurements?
No. You can type numbers, upload a photo, or take one with your camera. Either way it all happens in your browser: the picture is analysed in memory by a face model loaded from this site, and nothing is uploaded, stored or sent anywhere. The camera is only switched on when you press the button, and it switches off as soon as you take the photo.
How accurate is measuring from a photo?
It is an estimate. The photo tool finds points on your face and measures the distances between them, but it cannot see your true hairline, and a tilted head, a wide-angle lens, a big smile or hair across the forehead all shift the numbers. Use a sharp, straight-on photo, then check the measurements it fills in and correct any that look wrong.
How do I measure my face accurately?
Use a ruler or flexible tape in front of a mirror with your hair pulled back, or measure from a straight-on photo of known size. Measure in straight lines rather than around the curve, and repeat each measurement twice.
Can my face shape change?
Slightly. Weight changes, ageing, a new haircut or facial hair all change how your face looks and can shift your measurements a little. Re-measure if you notice a change.
What if I fall between two face shapes?
Many people do. When your measurements sit close to a cutoff, the result shows the neighbouring shape too. Read both guides and keep whichever advice suits the look you want.
